Case Study: BLACK PINK
DB provided complete VR finishing services for Meta’s premier immersive concert event for Korean K-Pop group BLACKPINK.
Color
We hosted directors Josh & Jason Diamond for a real-time, in-headset color grade.
Our team handled the de-noise and de-warping of the 8K RED footage, resulting in crisp images that establish a sense of presence.
Using an ACES workflow with print film emulation LUTs, we dialed in a creative grade specifically for the Quest’s wide P3 color space.
Monitoring within the Quest (without rendering and side-loading) allowed the Diamonds to have a fluid look-development process.
Mix
We mixed the concert while wearing a Quest 3 headset so we could transport ourselves into the soundscape of a rocking arena.
We panned the music stems, crowd noise, and Foleyed pyrotechnics all around the 360-degree space in order to make the audience feel like they’re in the thick of the show.
We handled the deliverables, using a render farm to crunch hours of 8K footage.
Since it launched in late 2023, BLACKPINK: A VR Encore remains one of the most popular immersive concerts on the Quest platform, with thousands of viewers filling the virtual stands at any given time. Its success spawned an immediate follow-up, Doja Cat: The Scarlet Tour, also directed by the Diamond Bros. and posted here—in stereoscopic VR.
